Michelle Vine, Surrogates For Social Touch, Live Performance Closing Event

ARTIST: Michelle Vine EXHIBITION TITLE: Surrogates for Social Touch EXHIBITION DATES: Wednesday, 16 - Saturday, 26 May WHERE: Project Gallery, Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. CLOSING PERFORMANCE EVENT: Saturday, 26 May, 2-4pm Featuring Michelle Vine performing in collaboration with Megan Janet White, and her Theatre of Thunder Stormbodies, with live music-scape by Luke Jaaniste. Skin as creative material and sensational field.  This performance work is a single two-hour evolving event, with a sitting, reclining audience on lush cushions. The work traverse the sculptures and immersive installation of the exhibition, activating and interacting with objects, sounds and bodies.  It explores the connection and disconnection, and comfort and discomfort, we have with our own and other bodies.  The performance begins with Luke Jaaniste adding to his ongoing exhibition sound installation with a more heightened live music-scape, adding his angelic vocals and whispered affirmations by Michelle Vine. He is soon joined by the Stormbodies, etherial shoppers (or perhaps shoplifters?) from another realm, whose interactions with the surrogate objects range from reverential to whimsical to sardonic. They pave the way for the growing intensity of the moving bodies of Michelle Vine and Megan Janet White who explore the terrain of each others bodies in entangled connections and disconnections. Expect to feel your skin anew. _________________________________________ FULL CREDITS: Exhibition installation and objects by Michelle Vine Movement devised by Megan Janet white and Michelle Vine in collaboration, within costumery by Megan Janet White Soundscape and live sonic performance by Luke Jaaniste, developed in the space for the space, with whispered affirmations by Michelle Vine Appearing as Theatre of Thunder Stormbodies (directed and costumed by Megan Janet White) were Jessica Lam, Saki Kusuyama and Lara Virtue Performance atmospherics (smoke and lighting) by Matt Dabrowski Videography by Ami Phi
